Install Geyser: Bedrock players on your Java server
Published on 5 October 2026
The Geyser plugin lets friends on Minecraft Bedrock, on a phone, a tablet or a Windows PC, join your Java server. A second plugin, Floodgate, means they don’t need a Java account to do so. Geyser listens on its own UDP port. For that you use the extra port you create under Network in the game panel.
What do you need?
- A Minecraft Java server on Paper, our default. A Java plan comes with one extra port.
- A Minecraft version that Geyser supports. On 5 October 2026 that’s Java 26.2; the current list is on the GeyserMC Supported versions page. If your server is newer, Bedrock players can only connect once Geyser supports that version too. Just starting out? Then pick a version that fits under Versions. If your server runs an older version, from 1.20.5 onwards, you also need the ViaVersion plugin.
- A backup, which you make under Backups.
How do you install Geyser and Floodgate?
- In the game panel, go to Network, under the Actions heading, and click Create Allocation. Note the new port under Port and type
geyserunder Add notes. - Download Geyser and Floodgate from geysermc.org/download, both in the Spigot version. It works on Paper too.
- Open File managers and go to the
pluginsfolder. Click Upload, choose Upload Files and select both files. - Restart your server. Geyser and Floodgate then create their settings.
- Open
plugins/Geyser-Spigot/config.yml. Underbedrock, setportto your extra port and leaveclone-remote-portatfalse. - Find
auth-typein the same file and set it tofloodgate. Click Save content. - Restart your server.
How do you know it works?
On startup, the console shows the line Started Geyser on followed by your extra port. Then type geyser connectiontest in the console with your IP address and the extra port, for example geyser connectiontest 203.0.113.10 25601. Geyser then has GeyserMC test whether your server can be reached from outside.
Your Bedrock friends add your server under Servers, with the IP address and the extra port in separate fields. Bedrock doesn’t support SRV records, so typing the port is still needed. By default Floodgate puts a dot in front of their name, such as .Sanne, so it can’t clash with a Java name.
No connection? Bedrock uses UDP. If the console says Geyser is running on your port and the test still fails, open a ticket with your server address and the port. We’ll then check whether UDP traffic gets through properly on our side.
Skins and known limitations
With Floodgate, Java players see the skins of Bedrock players. GeyserMC converts them through its own service, which can take a while. Not everything translates between the two editions: according to GeyserMC, things like clickable links in chat and the glowing effect don’t work for Bedrock players. Bedrock players can’t load Java mods, so Geyser is mainly a fit for a server with plugins.
What are the common mistakes?
- Leaving the default port 19132. That port doesn’t belong to your server. Use the port from Network.
- Turning on
clone-remote-port. Geyser then ignores your extra port and takes the port of your Java server. - Geyser and voice chat on the same port. Two plugins can’t listen on one UDP port. On startup you’ll see the error
Address already in use. - Forgetting the whitelist. If it’s on, add Bedrock players in the console with
fwhitelist add name, without the dot.
