How much memory do you need?

For a small server, 2 GB is enough. Lots of addons, big maps and full servers need more; for DarkRP with a long addon list, choose 4 GB or more.

Standard or Premium for Garry’s Mod?

Garry’s Mod does most of its work on one processor core. For a small server, Standard is enough; on busy DarkRP or TTT servers with lots of addons, you notice the faster cores of Premium.

Who is a Garry’s Mod server for?

A Garry’s Mod server is for groups of friends who want to play their own way and for communities with their own DarkRP or TTT server. Add a website for your rules and a forum with web hosting. Our web hosting comes with DDoS protection through RoyaleHosting, with more than 6 Tbps of capacity.

Setting up your Garry’s Mod server

Just ordered? First steps after your order shows you how to get into the game panel. To change the settings in the Startup tab, see Change your server settings under Startup.

  1. Step 1: Choose a game mode and map

    In the Startup tab, set the game mode, the starting map and the maximum number of players.

  2. Step 2: Add your Workshop collection

    Create a collection with your addons in the Steam Workshop and enter its ID under Workshop ID.

  3. Step 3: Enter a Steam token

    Create a token on Steam’s game server account page (App ID 4000) and enter it under Steam Account Token. Without a token your server is missing from the server list or sits at the bottom.

  4. Step 4: Connect

    Find your server in the server list, or type connect address:port in the console.

What does a Garry’s Mod server need?

Garry’s Mod is the sandbox game by Facepunch Studios, built on the Source engine. Really, it is a toy box: with game modes like Trouble in Terrorist Town, Prop Hunt, Murder and DarkRP it turns into a different game every time. On your own server you choose the game mode, the maps and the addons.

How much RAM does a Garry’s Mod server need?

A bare sandbox or TTT server is light: the smallest plan, Muffin 2 GB, is enough for a group of friends. The more addons, maps and players, the more memory. For a DarkRP server with a long addon list, choose CupCake 4 GB or Cake 6 GB, and BIGCake 8 GB for a busy community server.

Why do you need a Steam token?

If you want your server in the server list, it needs a Steam Game Server Login Token. You create one for free on Steam’s game server account page, with App ID 4000, and enter it under Steam Account Token. Without a token your server is missing from the list or sits at the bottom.

What can you change in the panel?

In the Startup tab you choose the game mode, the starting map, the maximum number of players and the tickrate. You let the server download addons and maps with a Workshop collection: create a collection in the Steam Workshop and enter its ID under Workshop ID. Making addons yourself? Turn on Lua Refresh, and the server reloads changed Lua files without a restart.

Do I need a Steam Game Server Login Token?

Yes, if your server should appear in the server list. You create the token for free on Steam’s game server account page (App ID 4000) and enter it under Steam Account Token.

How do I install addons?

Create a collection in the Steam Workshop and enter its ID under Workshop ID in the Startup tab. The server downloads the addons when it starts.

Which game modes can I run?

Any game mode you put on the server. Trouble in Terrorist Town comes with Garry’s Mod; DarkRP and Prop Hunt you install first, for example through the Workshop. You choose the game mode in the Startup tab.

How many players can join my Garry’s Mod server?

You set the maximum yourself in the Startup tab, up to 128. More players and addons do need a bigger plan.

How much RAM does a Garry’s Mod server need?

For a bare sandbox or TTT server, 2 GB is enough. For DarkRP with lots of addons choose 4 or 6 GB, and 8 GB for a busy community server.

Is my Garry’s Mod server protected against DDoS attacks?

Yes. Premium comes with DDoS protection through Cloudflare Magic Transit. On Standard, your server has standard DDoS protection from the data centre. For a public community server we recommend Premium.
