Standard or Premium for DayZ?

DayZ runs well on Standard for a small group. A busy server with lots of players and mods benefits from the faster cores of Premium.

Who is a DayZ server for?

A DayZ server is for communities and groups of friends who want their own DayZ: a PvE server, a server with traders or hardcore without third person. Running a community? Add a website for your rules and your Discord link with web hosting. Our web hosting comes with DDoS protection through RoyaleHosting, with more than 6 Tbps of capacity.

Setting up your DayZ server

Just ordered? First steps after your order shows you how to get into the game panel. To change the settings in the Startup tab, see Change your server settings under Startup.

  1. Step 1: Pick a Steam account

You download the DayZ server files with a real Steam account. Preferably use a separate account with Steam Guard turned off; if the account owns DayZ, automatic mission updates and Workshop mod downloads work too.

  2. Step 2: Enter your Steam login

In the Startup tab, fill in [Host] Steam Username and [Host] Steam Password, then choose Reinstall Server in the Settings tab. The server then downloads the files.

  3. Step 3: Set up your server

Fill in the server name, a password if you want one and an admin password, choose the maximum number of players and switch rules such as the third-person camera on or off.

  4. Step 4: Add mods and connect

Put mods under Additional Mods or upload a mod list exported from the DayZ Launcher. Then search for your server by name in the DayZ Launcher.

What does a DayZ server need?

DayZ is the hardcore survival game by Bohemia Interactive. You look for food, weapons and shelter in a world full of infected and other players. On your own server you make it your own DayZ: with mods, your own rules and the number of players you want.

Why your own Steam account?

Steam only releases the DayZ server files to an account that is logged in. That is why you enter a Steam username and password in the Startup tab and then choose Reinstall Server. Preferably use a separate account with Steam Guard turned off. If that account owns DayZ, automatic mission updates and Workshop mod downloads work too.

How much RAM do you need?

We start DayZ at 8 GB, enough for a server with a group of friends and a handful of mods. A full community server, a big modpack or an extra map needs more: choose SuperCake 12 GB or MegaCake 16 GB.

What can you change in the panel?

In the Startup tab you enter the server name, a password, the admin password and the maximum number of players. You also switch the third-person camera, the crosshair, the personal light, darker nights and the speed of day and night on or off. Mods go under Additional Mods, or you upload a mod list exported from the DayZ Launcher; server-side mods have their own field. RCON runs through BattlEye, with its own RCON password. Note that your server is for the PC version on Steam; players on PlayStation or Xbox can’t join it.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a Steam account?

Steam only releases the DayZ server files to an account that is logged in. Preferably use a separate account with Steam Guard turned off. If that account owns DayZ, automatic mission updates and Workshop mod downloads work too.

Can I use mods?

Yes. Mods come from the Steam Workshop. Put them under Additional Mods in the Startup tab or upload a mod list from the DayZ Launcher. Players need the same mods to connect.

Can I turn off the third-person camera?

Yes. Turn on Disable Third Person in the Startup tab. Then everyone plays in first person.

Is my server ready for DayZ 1.30 and Badlands?

Bohemia releases update 1.30 and the paid Badlands expansion with the new Nasdara map on 15 October 2026, for PC and Xbox. Server and players need the same version. With Automatic Updates on in the Startup tab, your server updates itself when it restarts. Bohemia has not said yet whether there will be a wipe or how to run Nasdara on your server, so make a backup before the update.

Can players on PlayStation or Xbox join my DayZ server?

No. Our DayZ servers run the Steam version for PC. PlayStation and Xbox have their own servers.

How much RAM does a DayZ server need?

At least 8 GB for a group of friends with a handful of mods. For a full community server, a big modpack or an extra map, choose 12 or 16 GB.

Is my DayZ server protected against DDoS attacks?

Yes. Premium comes with DDoS protection through Cloudflare Magic Transit. On Standard, your server has standard DDoS protection from the data centre. For a public PvP server we recommend Premium.
