About CakeHosting

What is CakeHosting?

CakeHosting is a Dutch hosting provider for Minecraft servers, other game servers, Discord bots and web hosting. We focus on groups of friends and small communities. Our motto: quality doesn’t have to be expensive.

Did CakeHosting shut down?

CakeHosting closed on 6 September 2024 under its previous owners. In 2026, Space-Node took over the brand and CakeHosting opened again, with new servers and new plans. Read more in CakeHosting is back.

Who is behind CakeHosting?

CakeHosting is part of Space-Node, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 42164898. The address and other details are on About us.

Can I log in with my old account from before 2024?

No. No customer accounts, servers or customer data were transferred with the takeover. You create a new account in My CakeHosting.

I had a server with CakeHosting in 2024. What now?

That server and its files did not come over to us, so unfortunately we can’t restore them. If you still have a backup yourself, we are happy to help you put it on a new server.

What happens to the old reviews?

They stay on Trustpilot and are about CakeHosting under the previous owners. On the site we show the TrustScore, always with that explanation. New reviews go on the same profile.

Ordering and paying

How do I order a server?

Choose a plan on your game’s page and click Order. You then go to My CakeHosting, where you create an account or log in and check out.

Which payment methods can I use?

You pay through Stripe, with iDEAL, Bancontact, credit card, PayPal and bank transfer, among others. At checkout you see which methods are available to you.

Do the prices include VAT?

Yes. All prices on this site include 21% Dutch VAT. You see the final amount at checkout.

Who sends my invoice?

CakeHosting (part of Space-Node), with our Chamber of Commerce number 42164898 and VAT number NL005549399B06. You find your invoices in My CakeHosting.

How do I know whether my invoice has been paid?

In My CakeHosting, under Invoices, you can see the status of every invoice. A paid invoice is marked as paid.

Can I cancel any month?

Yes. You cancel your service in My CakeHosting. It keeps running until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Game servers

What is a Minecraft server?

A Minecraft server is a computer that keeps your world online all day. Your friends connect to it with the server address, even when you are not playing yourself.

Which server software do you recommend for Minecraft Java?

Paper. It is a fast version of the Minecraft server that runs Bukkit and Spigot plugins, which is why your server starts with Paper by default.

Java or Bedrock: which do I need?

If you play on PC, Mac or Linux, choose Java. If you play on a console, phone or tablet, choose Bedrock.

How much memory do I need?

That depends on the number of players, your plugins or mods and the size of your world. For Minecraft, the server size calculator gives you advice; for other games, the minimum is on the game’s page.

What is the difference between Standard and Premium?

The features are the same. Premium runs on AMD Ryzen 9 7950X or 9950X, with high single-core performance, and each plan gets more CPU threads and usually more storage. Standard runs on solid hardware at a sharp price. DDoS protection differs too: Premium comes with DDoS protection through Cloudflare Magic Transit, Standard with standard DDoS protection from the data centre. See everything side by side on Specifications.

Where are your servers?

Standard runs in Europe (Netherlands, Germany or France), Canada or Singapore. Premium runs in Europe (Netherlands or France) or the United States (San Jose, California). Discord bots run in the United States.

Can I make backups?

Yes. In the game panel you make backups yourself or schedule them. How many backups you can keep per server is listed with your plan.

Can I move to a bigger plan later?

Yes, within the same game and line you move to a plan with more memory. Your server and your world stay as they are.

What is a server network?

A server network links several servers together, so players can switch between, for example, a lobby, survival and minigames. You do that with a proxy such as Velocity. Want to set up a network? Get in touch and we will help you think it through.

Domain names and connecting

What is a domain name?

A domain name is an easy-to-remember name on the internet, such as yourserver.com. You register it per year and can use it for your website and your game server.

What is an SRV record?

An SRV record is a DNS setting that tells clients which address and port a service can be found on. For Minecraft Java, an SRV record means players only need to type your domain, without a port number.

Can I use my domain name as my server address?

Yes. With an A record you point a name such as play.yourserver.com to your server’s IP address. If your server uses a port other than the default, add an SRV record as well; with a domain name from us that isn’t possible yet, so players type the port after the name.

How do I get in touch?
