Standard or Premium for Squad?

Squad is heavy for a server, especially with lots of players at once. For trainings with a small group, Standard is enough; for big events and full servers, choose Premium.

Who is a Squad server for?

A Squad server is for clans and communities that want to hold their own trainings, events or matches. Add a clan website with your schedule and rules through web hosting. Our web hosting comes with DDoS protection through RoyaleHosting, with more than 6 Tbps of capacity.

Setting up your Squad server

Just ordered? First steps after your order shows you how to get into the game panel. To change the settings in the Startup tab, see Change your server settings under Startup.

  1. Step 1: Set up your server

    In the Startup tab, fill in the server name and the maximum number of players, and choose whether your server is listed.

  2. Step 2: Choose maps and rules

    In your server’s configuration files you set the map rotation, the admins and the rules.

  3. Step 3: Add mods

    Put the IDs of Workshop items under Download Workshops Items; the server downloads them when it starts.

  4. Step 4: Connect

    Search for your server by name in the Squad server list and connect.

What does a Squad server need?

Squad is the tactical shooter by Offworld Industries, with battles between two teams of up to 100 players in total. Teamwork and communication are at its core: squad leaders, vehicles, logistics and a commander. On your own server you choose the maps, the game modes and the rules.

How much RAM does a Squad server need?

Squad is one of the heavier games to host. How much memory you need depends mainly on the number of players and the layer you play. Our advice: BIGCake 8 GB for trainings and seeding with a small group, SuperCake 12 GB or MegaCake 16 GB for a half-full server, and GigaCake 24 GB or TeraCake 32 GB for events with a full server.

Licensed or not?

Your server works without a licence too, but then it won’t appear among the licensed servers in the list. You apply for a licence yourself with Offworld Industries, and conditions come with it: a licensed server is always public and without a password, has enough admins and has to meet hardware requirements. Read those conditions before you apply, and feel free to contact us if you are unsure.

What can you change in the panel?

In the Startup tab you fill in the server name and the maximum number of players, and choose whether the server is listed, how many slots you reserve, whether team changes are allowed and whether teams stay balanced. Map rotation and admins go into the configuration files. You add Workshop mods under Download Workshops Items; the server fetches them when it starts.

Frequently asked questions

How many players can join a Squad server?

Squad is made for battles of up to 100 players. You set how many you allow in the Startup tab; for lots of players you need a bigger plan.

Will my server show up as a licensed server?

Not automatically. You apply for a licence yourself with Offworld Industries, and conditions come with it, among others on being public, admins and hardware. Without a licence your server works too, but it won’t be listed among the licensed servers.

Can I use mods?

Yes, from the Steam Workshop. Put the IDs under Download Workshops Items in the Startup tab; the server downloads them when it starts.

How much RAM does a Squad server need?

At least 8 GB for trainings with a small group. For a half-full server choose 12 or 16 GB, and 24 or 32 GB for events with a full server.

Can I reserve slots for my clan?

Yes. Reserved Slots in the Startup tab keeps slots free. Who is entitled to them is set in your server’s admin configuration.

Is my Squad server protected against DDoS attacks?

Yes. Premium comes with DDoS protection through Cloudflare Magic Transit. On Standard, your server has standard DDoS protection from the data centre. For events and public servers we recommend Premium.
