Register a domain name
New: domain names are now available to order online.
With your own domain name, visitors and players find you again easily: yourname.com for your website or play.yourserver.com for your server, instead of a string of numbers. At CakeHosting you register .com, .eu, .nl, .be and more from €8.95 a year, VAT included. The domain name is registered in your name.
Choose your extension
You register a domain name per year. The prices below are per year and include VAT. Registering and renewing cost the same; the price follows our purchase price.
Not sure yet whether your name is available? Check your domain name first.
Your domain name is registered in your name right after payment, for 1 year. You give your consent for this at checkout, and your right of withdrawal ends as soon as the registration has been carried out. A registration period that has started cannot be cancelled early and is not refunded. If you do not want to renew, cancel the domain name or leave the renewal invoice unpaid: it then expires at the end of the period. See also the terms for domain names.
| Extension | Features | Price per year | Order |

Which extension suits you?
Let your domain shine! Pick the extension that matches your visitors. The main ones at a glance:
| Extension | Good for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| .com | Recognised all over the world | The best-known extension, so often taken already: then look at another extension too |
| .eu | Visitors across Europe | For citizens and residents of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and for businesses and organisations established there |
| .nl | Standing out in the Netherlands | 2 to 63 characters: letters, digits and hyphens, no accented letters |
| .be | A site with a Belgian touch | Accented letters are allowed, as in belgië.be |
We also offer .de, .net and .org; you’ll find every extension and its yearly price above. For more tips on a good name, read How to choose a domain name.
How it works
-
Step 1: Choose your name and extension
Choose the extension above and enter the domain name you want when you order.
-
Step 2: We register it in your name
When you order, we check live whether the name is still available. Registration starts right after your payment, with you as the registrant.
-
Step 3: Point it somewhere
Link it to your game server with the Link to server tab in My CakeHosting, or set DNS records yourself, such as an A record for your website.
-
Step 4: Renew in time
About 30 days before the expiry date you get a renewal invoice. Once it’s paid, we renew your domain name.
A domain name for your Minecraft server
You can point your domain name to your game server. With an A record, your friends connect to play.yourserver.com instead of a string of numbers, with your server’s port after it. On Minecraft Java they can leave out the port with an SRV record, a DNS setting that tells clients at which address and port your server runs. If your domain is with another provider, you set that record there yourself; with a domain name from us that isn’t possible yet.
Domain name plus web hosting
Want to put a website on it? Combine your domain with web hosting: you get SSD storage, databases, mailboxes on your own domain and DDoS protection through RoyaleHosting, with more than 6 Tbps of capacity. That keeps your name, your site and your email together. How to start a website takes you from idea to live site.
Already have a domain name?
A domain you already have with another registrar can simply point to your website or server with us: you only change its DNS records. Transferring a domain to us isn’t possible yet; that’s coming later.

Let players join with play.yourname.com: link your domain in My CakeHosting or set an A record. SRV only works with a domain hosted elsewhere for now.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a domain name mine?
You register a domain name per year. As long as you renew it in time, it stays yours.
Can I withdraw from a registered domain name or get my money back?
No. As long as the registration has not been carried out, you can still withdraw from your order. More in the terms for domain names.
Whose name is my domain registered in?
Yours: you are the registrant. For .nl there’s no other way, because since 1 October 2023 the .nl registry SIDN no longer allows intermediaries to register a domain in their own name on someone else’s behalf. For private individuals, SIDN doesn’t show a name in the Whois.
What is the difference between a domain name and a subdomain?
A domain name is your own name on the internet, such as yourserver.com. A subdomain is a name below it, such as play.yourserver.com. You create subdomains yourself in your domain’s DNS settings.
Can I use my domain name for my Minecraft server?
Yes. With an A record you point your domain to your server; players then connect with, for example, play.yourserver.com and the port after it. On Minecraft Java they can leave out the port with an SRV record, if your domain is with a provider where you can set that record yourself; with a domain name from us that isn’t possible yet.
What if the domain name I want is already taken?
You’ll see that while ordering, because the order page checks live whether the name is available. If someone else registers it between your order and your payment, we get in touch: you choose another name, or you get your money back and we deliver nothing. Tip: use our domain name checker to see whether the name is still free before you order.
Can I transfer a domain to CakeHosting?
Not yet, that’s coming later. You can keep your domain where it is and point it to your server or website with DNS records. You can register a new domain name with us right away.
