Standard or Premium for Windrose?

Windrose needs a fair amount of memory, and every extra player adds work for the world. For a small crew, Standard is enough; with a full crew or later in the game, Premium gives you extra headroom.

Who is a Windrose server for?

A Windrose server is for a regular crew that wants to sail, build and explore together, without the host always having to be online.

Setting up your Windrose server

Just ordered? First steps after your order shows you how to get into the game panel. To change the settings in the Startup tab, see Change your server settings under Startup.

  1. Step 1: Choose a name and password

    In the Startup tab, set the server name and the maximum number of players. Want a password? Turn on Password Protected and choose one.

  2. Step 2: Start the server

    On the first start the server creates its world. The console shows when it is ready.

  3. Step 3: Share the invite code

    Your friends choose Play and then Connect to Server in Windrose, and paste the invite code. You find that code in ServerDescription.json in the R5 folder.

  4. Step 4: Make backups

    Early access means frequent updates. Before a big update, make a backup of your world in the game panel.

What does a Windrose server need?

Windrose is the pirate survival game by Kraken Express. You fight on land and at sea, build, craft and explore a large open world, alone or with your crew. The game has been in early access since 14 April 2026, and dedicated servers have been available since day one.

How many players and how much RAM?

Windrose supports up to 8 players; for the best experience the developers recommend a crew of about 4, because every player adds work for the world. The official server guide is clear about memory: 8 GB for 2 players, 12 GB for 4 players and 16 GB for a bigger group. So pick BIGCake 8 GB for a duo, SuperCake 12 GB for a crew of four and MegaCake 16 GB or more for a full server. A big crew deserves a big cake.

How do your friends connect?

Windrose works with invite codes instead of an IP address. Your friends choose Play, then Connect to Server, and paste the code. You find that code in ServerDescription.json in the R5 folder of your server. Prefer connecting directly with address and port? Turn on Use Direct Connection in the Startup tab.

What can you change in the panel?

In Startup you choose the server name, the maximum number of players, whether there is a password and whether you use direct connections. With Auto Update on, the server updates itself on every start. Early access means lots of updates: make a backup before a big one, so you can always go back to a working world. How that works is in Create and restore a backup.
