Standard or Premium for Enshrouded?

Enshrouded is middle-weight for a server. For a small group, Standard is enough; with lots of players at once or a big world full of buildings, Premium gives you more headroom.

Who is a Enshrouded server for?

An Enshrouded server is for groups of friends who want to build a base and explore the world together, even when not everyone is online at the same time. The group passwords also let new players in without giving them access to your base.

Setting up your Enshrouded server

Just ordered? First steps after your order shows you how to get into the game panel. To change the settings in the Startup tab, see Change your server settings under Startup.

  1. Step 1: Choose a name and passwords

    In the Startup tab, set the server name and choose your own passwords for the Admin, Friend, Guest and Visitor groups. Replace the default passwords.

  2. Step 2: Choose the number of players

    Set the maximum number of players in the Startup tab, up to 16.

  3. Step 3: Start the server

    On the first start the server creates its world and settings. The console shows when it is ready.

  4. Step 4: Connect

    Search for your server by name in the Enshrouded server list and enter your group’s password.

What does an Enshrouded server need?

Enshrouded is the survival and building game by Keen Games. You explore Embervale, build a base and fight the Shroud, a deadly fog. The game has been in early access since January 2024; version 1.0 is announced for 15 October 2026, on PC and PlayStation 5.

How many players and how much RAM?

An Enshrouded server has room for up to 16 players. Memory use grows mostly with the world: a built-up base and lots of explored land cost more than a full lobby. Keen says the server uses about 4.4 GB when idle, plus up to 100 MB per player. Our advice: Cake 6 GB for a group of friends, BIGCake 8 GB or SuperCake 12 GB for a bigger group or a large base, and MegaCake 16 GB for a full server that has been running for a long time.

How do the group passwords work?

Players get in with the password of a group. Whoever uses the Admin password can do everything. Friends can build and open chests; Guests and Visitors can do less. In the Startup tab you choose your own password for each group. The server won’t accept a password made of digits only. Give the Admin password only to people you really trust: a base is emptied in no time, and no cake makes up for that.

What should you know about updates and 1.0?

With Auto Update on, your server updates itself on every start, so it matches the players’ version. Keen Games has not said whether early access worlds carry over to 1.0 unchanged. So make a backup of your world in the Backups tab before that update. How restoring works is in Create and restore a backup.

Keen Games has not said yet. Your server installs 1.0 on the first restart after the release, like any other update. Make a backup before that, so you can always go back.

Does my server always run the latest version?

Yes, as long as Auto Update is on in the Startup tab. The server then updates itself on every start, so after a game update a restart is usually all it takes.
