Colocation in the Netherlands
With colocation, you put your own server in a professional data centre. The data centre takes care of power, cooling and security, and the hardware stays yours. We arrange a spot in Previder's PDC2 in Hengelo, from 1U to a full rack, with a quote made to measure.

How colocation works at CakeHosting
-
Step 1: You ask for a quote
Tell us how much space, power and network you need. It is fine if you do not know everything yet.
-

By email, with the price and exactly what is included.
-
Step 3: Your server moves in
We agree together on how and when your server goes into the rack.
-
Step 4: Your server is running
You manage it remotely. On-site access works as agreed in your quote.

Frequently asked questions
How much does colocation cost?
That depends on the space (a few U or part of a rack), the power draw, the network (port speed, traffic and IPv4 addresses) and extras such as remote hands. Every server is different, so we make a quote to measure instead of a price list. Asking for one commits you to nothing.
How many U is a quarter, half or full rack?
One U (rack unit) is 1.75 in, or 4.45 cm. How many U fit in a quarter, half or full rack differs per data centre. At Previder a quarter rack is 10U, a half rack 22U and a full rack 46U. Your quote states exactly how much space you get.
What should I sort out before my server goes to the data centre?
These points make moving in smooth:
- a 19-inch rack-mount case with rails (the cabinets at Previder are 60 cm wide and 100 cm deep);
- remote management such as IPMI, iDRAC or iLO, set up and tested;
- your power draw under load;
- two power supplies if you want an A and B feed;
- a label with your name, and a fresh backup.
Can I visit my server?
The data centre is open around the clock to people on the access list. Whether and when you go on that list is agreed in your quote. Rather not make the trip? Then ask about remote hands.
Why a data centre in Hengelo?
Hengelo is in Twente, in the east of the Netherlands: the data centre is on the A35, close to the A1 and a quarter of an hour from the German border, so it is easy to reach from the region and from Germany. CakeHosting itself is based nearby, in Almelo. If you live further away, you simply manage your server remotely.
What if my server breaks?
The server stays yours, so repairs and parts are up to you. A reboot or a cable swap can be done remotely, or with remote hands if that is in your quote. Would you rather not own hardware at all? Then look at a dedicated server: you rent it from us.
