Upgrade your plan to more memory
Published on 3 October 2026
You upgrade your server in My CakeHosting, under Upgrade on your service. You pick a bigger plan in the same line and today you only pay the difference for the rest of your billing period. Once paid, your server gets the new plan; your files and server address stay the same.
When should you upgrade?
Upgrade when memory is genuinely full: the memory meter in the console sits at the limit for long stretches, or the server stops with an out-of-memory message. If your server lags while there’s memory to spare, more memory won’t help. Find the cause with Spark first, and estimate what you need with the server size calculator.
How do you upgrade in My CakeHosting?
- Log in to My CakeHosting and go to Services.
- Open your server and click Upgrade under Actions.
- Choose the plan you want. Your current plan is marked Current Plan.
- If your plan has extra options, click Next Step to see them. Leave them as they are if you don’t want to change anything.
- Check Total Today in the Upgrade Summary and click Upgrade.
- You’re taken to the invoice. Pay it the way you normally do.
- Once the payment is in, restart your server in the game panel so it uses the extra memory.
What happens to your server?
After payment, our system adjusts your server automatically: you get the memory, storage and CPU time of the new plan. Your files, your world and your address with port stay the same, and your server keeps running in the same place.
What does it cost?
Total Today shows the difference between your old and new plan, only for the days left in your current period. From your next invoice you pay the normal price of the new plan. Prices per plan are on your game’s page, such as the one for Minecraft.
Can you move from Standard to Premium?
Upgrade lets you pick a bigger plan within your own line. Premium runs on different servers, with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X or 9950X. To switch, order a Premium server, move your files with a backup or over SFTP, and then cancel your old server. Which line suits you is explained in Standard or Premium.
What are the common mistakes?
- Not restarting after the upgrade. A running server only uses the extra memory after a restart.
- Wanting a second upgrade while the first is still open. That isn’t possible. Pay the open invoice, or click Cancel upgrade on your service and choose again.
- Leaving the invoice unpaid. Your upgrade only takes effect once it’s paid.
