A live web map of your world with BlueMap

Published on 3 October 2026

BlueMap turns your Minecraft world into a 3D map you can explore in a browser, with players moving around live. You install the plugin, add an extra port in the game panel and put that port in BlueMap’s settings. Then you open the map on your server’s address with that port.

Why BlueMap and not Dynmap?

Our 2019 guide covered Dynmap. Right now Dynmap has no official release for Minecraft 26.x; the newest Paper version it supports is 1.21.4. BlueMap does support Paper 26.1 to 26.3. On an older version, Dynmap is still an option.

How to install BlueMap

  1. Install the plugin. Search for BlueMap under Plugins in the game panel, or upload the jar to the plugins folder.
  2. Restart your server. BlueMap creates the plugins/BlueMap folder with its settings.
  3. Add an extra port. Open Network and click Create Allocation. Our Minecraft Java packages let you add one extra port. Write down the new port number.
  4. Allow the download. In plugins/BlueMap/core.conf, set accept-download to true. BlueMap then fetches the Minecraft files it needs to draw your world.
  5. Set the port. In plugins/BlueMap/webserver.conf, set port to your extra port.
  6. Reload the settings with /bluemap reload in the console.
  7. Open the map at http:// followed by your server’s IP address, a colon and your extra port.

Why isn’t the whole map there yet?

BlueMap renders your world piece by piece, so on a big world the first render takes a while. Type /bluemap in the console to see how far it has got. Rendering uses some extra processing power, so let it run while few players are online.

What should you keep in mind?

  • Storage: the map is made of lots of small files, and on a big world that adds up. It counts towards your package’s storage.
  • Backups: by default the map lives in bluemap/web/maps, so it ends up in your backups. If you’d rather leave it out, add that folder to the ignored files when you create a backup, as explained in Create and restore a backup.
  • Privacy: anyone with the address can see your map, including where players are. Set live-player-markers to false in plugins/BlueMap/plugin.conf to hide them.

No server yet? Minecraft Java servers start at €4.95 a month on Minecraft server hosting. Questions about your port? Open a ticket. More guides are in the knowledge base.

Frequently asked questions

Does BlueMap cost anything?

No, BlueMap is free. It does use your own server’s memory, processing power and storage.

Can I open the map over https or on my own domain?

BlueMap’s built-in web server works over plain http on your IP address and extra port. For https you need a separate web server in front of it.

Why won’t the map load in my browser?

Check that the port in webserver.conf matches your extra port exactly, that you ran /bluemap reload, and that you used http rather than https.

Does BlueMap work with Fabric or NeoForge?

Yes, BlueMap has versions for Fabric and NeoForge too. The steps are nearly the same; you put the file in the mods folder instead.
