How to order a game server

Published on 3 October 2026

Ordering a server takes a few minutes: you pick a package on this site, set your billing period and location in the shop, and check out. As soon as your payment comes in, we set up your server automatically. Here’s what to watch for at each step, and how invoices work after that.

Which package should you choose?

Start with your game. Game hosting lists every game we host, and Minecraft has its own page with the Java packages. Not sure how much memory you need? The server size calculator works it out, and you can move to a bigger package in the same line later.

Standard or Premium?

  • Standard: solid hardware at a sharp price, with standard DDoS protection from the data centre. Plenty for a group of friends.
  • Premium: an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X or 9950X with fast single-core speed, plus DDoS protection through Cloudflare Magic Transit. Worth it for busy servers, heavy modpacks or a server that might attract attacks.

We compare the two in plain English in Standard vs Premium.

How does checkout work?

  1. Click the order button on your package. You’ll land in the shop in My CakeHosting.
  2. Under Choose your billing period, pick Monthly or Yearly. Yearly works out cheaper per month: a Minecraft Java server then starts at €50.49 a year.
  3. Choose the Server location, ideally close to most of your players.
  4. Click Add to cart, then Checkout.
  5. Log in, or create an account if you’re new. Use an email address you actually read, because your invoices and login details go there.
  6. Choose your Payment method, agree to the terms of service and pay.

How can you pay?

Payments run through Stripe, for example with a credit card, PayPal, iDEAL, Bancontact or a bank transfer. With iDEAL and Bancontact you confirm the payment with your own bank. A bank transfer takes longer, so your server is only created once the money arrives. If you don’t pay for a new order, it simply expires after a week.

What happens after you pay?

Our system creates your server, usually within a few minutes. What to do next, from logging in to the game panel to your first backup, is covered in First steps after your order.

How do your next invoices work?

You always pay in advance, per month or per year. About a week before the due date, your new invoice appears under Invoices and you get an email. If it isn’t paid on time, we pause your server shortly after the due date. If payment still doesn’t arrive, we end the service and delete its data. Want to stop? Cancel as described in Cancel a service and the reminders stop too.

If you’re a consumer in the EU, you have a 14-day cooling-off period after ordering; the details are in our terms. Need a home for your website as well? Our web hosting runs with DDoS protection through RoyaleHosting, with more than 6 Tbps of capacity.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upgrade to a bigger package later?

Yes. In My CakeHosting you can move your service to a bigger package in the same line, so from Standard to a bigger Standard package or from Premium to a bigger Premium one.

Which payment methods can I use?

You pay through Stripe, for example with a credit card, PayPal, iDEAL, Bancontact or a bank transfer.

What happens if I don’t pay an invoice?

Shortly after the due date we pause your server. If payment still doesn’t arrive, we end the service and delete its data. If you want to stop, cancelling is the cleaner option.

Do I need an account to order?

Yes. At checkout you log in or create an account in My CakeHosting, where you’ll also find your services, invoices and tickets.
