Enshrouded 1.0 and your server: what changes and what to do

Published on 5 October 2026

Enshrouded comes out as version 1.0 on 15 October 2026, on PC through Steam and on PlayStation 5. For your server it comes down to three things: back up your world beforehand, update the server after release so it runs the same version as your players, and have everyone respend their skill points afterwards. Below is what Keen Games has confirmed so far, and what it hasn’t.

When does Enshrouded 1.0 come out?

On Thursday 15 October 2026. That’s when Enshrouded leaves early access on Steam, where it has been since 24 January 2024. On the same day the game comes out on PlayStation 5, with enhancements for the PS5 Pro. The PlayStation Store lists the release at 17:00 UTC, which is 18:00 in the UK and 19:00 in the Netherlands. Keen hasn’t given a time for Steam in its announcements yet. Keen plans the Xbox Series X|S version for spring 2027.

What changes in 1.0?

Keen is showing the changes bit by bit. Confirmed so far, among other things:

  • A new biome with new enemies, and a higher cap: level 50 for players and level 55 for gear.
  • Nine new spells, including totems and a skeleton you can summon, plus a heavy attack for wands.
  • A new skill tree layout. Because of that, your skill tree gets reset. Keen advises spending your points before you leave your base.

Keen also says it is working on better performance for the game, including on lower and mid-range PCs. According to Keen, the full list of changes follows in October, with a changelog and a highlights video. One more thing for new players on your server: since 8 September Enshrouded costs €39.99 instead of €29.99.

What changes for your dedicated server?

Keen has said little about the server itself so far. Here’s what you do know:

  • Server and game have to run the same version. Keen already wrote that with the first patches. Since February 2025 the server list also shows a notice when a server runs a different version (version mismatch).
  • Your world lives on the server, your character doesn’t. According to Keen, world progress is stored on the dedicated server and character progress on the players’ PCs. The skill tree belongs to the character, so your players will notice that reset, not your server files.
  • No wipe has been announced. The announcements up to 5 October 2026 don’t say that worlds have to start over. Only the changelog will tell for sure, so make a backup anyway.
  • No crossplay has been announced. Keen hasn’t said anything about PC and PS5 players playing together, or about PS5 players on dedicated servers. According to the PlayStation Store, online play on PS5 requires PlayStation Plus, with up to 8 players online.
  • Memory. Keen currently puts the dedicated server at about 4.4 GB of RAM when idle, plus up to 100 MB per player. Whether that changes with 1.0 isn’t known. So keep an eye on the memory graph in the game panel after the update.

What do you do before 15 October?

  1. Back up your world. With us, you do that in the Backups tab of the game panel. Download it to your own computer as well. Here’s how: Create and restore a backup.
  2. Know where your world lives. On a dedicated server, the world sits in the savegame folder by default. World 1 is called 3ad85aea there, with an _info file and an -index file next to it.
  3. Write down your settings. Your passwords and roles are in enshrouded_server.json. With us, you set them in the Startup tab: here’s how.
  4. Warn your players about the skill tree reset, so nobody runs into the Shroud without skills.

What do you do on release day?

  1. Wait until the update is out and read the changelog. In its patch notes, Keen often mentions whether the dedicated server needs an update.
  2. Restart your server. On our servers Auto Update is on by default, and on a restart the server fetches the latest version. If you host through Steam yourself, check under Tools in your library whether the dedicated server has been updated.
  3. Check that it’s really ready. The console should show the line [Session] 'HostOnline' (up)!
  4. Have your players update and spend their skill points before they head out.
  5. Can’t see your server in the list, or is something off with the roles? Then go through Enshrouded server not showing up? How to fix it.

Keep Embervale online while you sleep? At CakeHosting an Enshrouded server starts at €4.95 a month, with Auto Update and 2 backups per server.

Something wrong after the update?

Then restore the backup from before the update. On top of that, according to Keen, Enshrouded keeps ten rolling copies of each world. In the -index file, the number at "latest" (0 to 9) decides which copy the server loads. Make a copy of all the files before you start tinkering with that.

Start over or keep playing?

That’s up to you. If you start a new world with 1.0, your players take their characters along: according to Keen, characters keep their equipment, inventory and levels when they move to another world. Most recipes and the survivors in your base do have to be unlocked again. Keep the old world as a backup in any case, because a base you spent months building isn’t a cake you bake again in an afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

When does Enshrouded 1.0 come out?

On 15 October 2026, on PC through Steam and on PlayStation 5. Keen Games plans the Xbox Series X|S version for spring 2027.

Will my Enshrouded world be wiped with 1.0?

Keen hasn’t announced that (as of 5 October 2026). The full changelog follows around release. Back up your world to be on the safe side.

Can PS5 players join my Enshrouded server?

Keen hasn’t said: crossplay between PC and PS5 hasn’t been announced. For now, count on a server for PC players on Steam.

Will my players lose their characters with 1.0?

Characters are stored on your players’ PCs, not on the server. Keen does say the skill tree gets reset with 1.0, so everyone respends their skill points.

If Auto Update is on in the Startup tab, a restart is enough once the update is out. Do make a backup in the Backups tab beforehand.
