Memory = the smallest plan that fits, in the Standard line (ARK: Survival Ascended: Premium).

How does the calculator work?

Every game starts at our smallest plan for that game, often the minimum from the developers’ server guide. From there the advice grows with your players and mods, and we pick the smallest plan in your line with enough memory. For Minecraft we use a base plus a little per player and per plugin or mod, rounded up to the nearest half gigabyte:

  • Minecraft Java without plugins or mods: 2 GB base, plus 0.1 GB per player.
  • Minecraft Java with plugins: 2.5 GB base, plus 0.12 GB per player and 0.05 GB per plugin.
  • Minecraft Java with mods: 4 GB base, plus 0.2 GB per player and 0.04 GB per mod.
  • Minecraft Bedrock without plugins or mods: 1 GB base, plus 0.05 GB per player.
  • Minecraft Bedrock with add-ons: 1 GB base, plus 0.05 GB per player and 0.02 GB per add-on.

These are rules of thumb, not measurements of your server. A widely explored world, a high view distance or heavy plugins can need more. Why extra memory does not always fix lag is explained in How much RAM does a Minecraft server need?

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the calculator?

It is an estimate based on rules of thumb, not a measurement of your server. Start with the plan it recommends. If things get tight, you can move to a bigger plan later.

Where does the minimum per game come from?

For each game we start at the memory the developers say it needs at the very least. That is also our smallest plan for that game. The game page tells you more, for example Valheim server hosting.

Do I need less memory with Premium?

No, the memory per plan is the same. Premium runs on the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X or 9950X and gets more CPU threads per plan, which you notice most with lots of players and heavy mods. See also Standard or Premium.

Can I move to a bigger plan later?

Yes. In My CakeHosting you upgrade to a bigger plan within the same line. Your server and your world stay exactly as they are.

My game is not listed. What now?

Then we do not offer it as a game server yet. Game servers lists every game you can host with us. Missing one? Let us know.
