Colocation in the Netherlands

With colocation, you put your own server in a professional data centre. The data centre takes care of power, cooling and security, and the hardware stays yours. We arrange a spot in Previder's PDC2 in Hengelo, from 1U to a full rack, with a quote made to measure.

The data centre: PDC2 in Hengelo

Your server lives in PDC2, the data centre of our partner Previder on Barnsteenstraat in Hengelo. Previder calls it a Tier 3+ data centre.

  • On the A35

    Barnsteenstraat 15 in Hengelo, close to the A1 and a quarter of an hour from the German border.

  • Power and fire

    Power runs along two independent paths, backed by UPS and emergency generators. Fires are put out with gas, not water.

  • Cooling

    Free-air cooling with closed cold aisles keeps temperature and humidity steady.

  • Security

    Fencing, cameras and security around the clock. Only people on the access list get in.

  • Network

    Carrier-neutral: Eurofiber, Relined and NDIX are among the networks in the building, along with the NL-ix and ENS-IX internet exchanges.

  • Certified

    Previder holds ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and NEN 7510, among others, and runs on 100% green power.

How colocation works at CakeHosting

  1. Step 1: You ask for a quote

    Tell us how much space, power and network you need. It is fine if you do not know everything yet.

  2. Step 2: You get your quote

    By email, with the price and exactly what is included.

  3. Step 3: Your server moves in

    We agree together on how and when your server goes into the rack.

  4. Step 4: Your server is running

    You manage it remotely. On-site access works as agreed in your quote.

Fields marked (required) must be filled in. You will hear back by email within a few working days. Rather talk first? Get in touch or email info@cakehosting.net.

What should we call you?

We will send the quote here.

Only if you are asking on behalf of a company or organisation.

One U is 1.75 in (4.45 cm) tall. Not sure? Choose "Not sure yet" and we will work it out together.

For example 150 watts or 1 amp, measured under load. Leave it empty if you do not know.

For example port speed, traffic or the number of IPv4 addresses.

What kind of server is it, what runs on it and when would you like to start?

We only use your details to answer your request. Read more in our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

How much does colocation cost?

That depends on the space (a few U or part of a rack), the power draw, the network (port speed, traffic and IPv4 addresses) and extras such as remote hands. Every server is different, so we make a quote to measure instead of a price list. Asking for one commits you to nothing.

How many U is a quarter, half or full rack?

One U (rack unit) is 1.75 in, or 4.45 cm. How many U fit in a quarter, half or full rack differs per data centre. At Previder a quarter rack is 10U, a half rack 22U and a full rack 46U. Your quote states exactly how much space you get.

What should I sort out before my server goes to the data centre?

These points make moving in smooth:

  • a 19-inch rack-mount case with rails (the cabinets at Previder are 60 cm wide and 100 cm deep);
  • remote management such as IPMI, iDRAC or iLO, set up and tested;
  • your power draw under load;
  • two power supplies if you want an A and B feed;
  • a label with your name, and a fresh backup.
Can I visit my server?

The data centre is open around the clock to people on the access list. Whether and when you go on that list is agreed in your quote. Rather not make the trip? Then ask about remote hands.

Why a data centre in Hengelo?

Hengelo is in Twente, in the east of the Netherlands: the data centre is on the A35, close to the A1 and a quarter of an hour from the German border, so it is easy to reach from the region and from Germany. CakeHosting itself is based nearby, in Almelo. If you live further away, you simply manage your server remotely.

What if my server breaks?

The server stays yours, so repairs and parts are up to you. A reboot or a cable swap can be done remotely, or with remote hands if that is in your quote. Would you rather not own hardware at all? Then look at a dedicated server: you rent it from us.
